   The Madigan’s and Costello’s ran Pubs in Araluen NSW – also the Flood family ran pubs in Stroud NSW
   Can you give me any information regarding these family members.

10. Hi Terry, I am trying to work out where & when my ggg grandfather died. His name was James Larkins, I have no date of death but I did find a death at Patricks Plains for a James Larkins aged 70 died 1877. This could be the one but as I have no other info I can’t be certain. I am hoping that perhaps I can find out where he is buried and if this James Larkins was known identity in the area. My James was born in Sussex, England and arrived in Australia as an assisted immigrant in 1838 with his wife and 2 sons. They settled in the Newcastle/Maitland area so this is still in the vicinity. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

    My name is Cristeen Perrett and I am very interested in some of your research. I have recently learnt that my family history is not exactly how we have always believed. ie that my GGGreat Grandfather James Perrett migrated with his family in 1839 aboard the ‘Bussorah Merchant”. On his arrival James had employment with the Busby family at Cassilis for 12 months, we thought he then settled and died in Millers Forest in 1848. James is buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery in Raymond Terrace.
    I have since learnt that James was actually living at the ‘Red House’ Black Creek and his occupation was ‘Innkeeper’. He had written several letters to the Colonial Secretary in early 1841 seeking to purchase land on the public reserve at Branxton. Thanks to your research I was able to track down the ‘Red House Inn’ site in Nth Rothbury on the original Coulson grant.
    I believe that James was there in 1841 and 1842.
    Funnily enough I actually live on the Great North Road at Laguna and was totally unaware that the area has so much relevance to my family history.
    I have also learnt that James’s cousin Isaac Perrett was a convict tha arrived in Australia in 1818 aboard the ‘Hadlow’. Isaac and James were born in the same year back in Nth Nibley Gloucester and grew up next door to each other. James migrated out at the urgence of Isaac and the two families began to live very close lives again.
    I am interested in the 2 ‘Red Houses’ that you have in your research, the one on Coulson’s Farm and the other at Wollombi Brook that was owned by Mr White and his family. The Wollombi History Group believe that Mr White’s ‘Red House’ is in Bellbird but Wollombi Brook does not go through Bellbird.
    I would be interested if you have an opinion on the matter and would love to hear your thoughts?

13. Hello Terry
    Do you have any records relating to Jerry’s Plains residents Owen & Anne Hynes, Robert & Henrietta Smith dating from the early 1840s? Both families are ancestors of mine.

    Owen Hynes was a blacksmith and Robert Smith had a livery business. They also went into a partnership as carriers.
